Why the 69th page?

This page — this single page — capsulizes the entire book.

In his 2006 novel, How to Read a Novel: A User’s Guide, John Sutherland surmised that in order to determine whether or not you’ll enjoy a book, you should flip to page sixty-nine and start reading. Why? According to him, page 69 is both the focal point and the heart of a book. Page 69 is where a novel comes alive or falls flat on its face. Don’t believe him? then  why not try a few samples for yourself.

*If you hit a blank page, you have permission to use either page 68 or 70 😉
